My outrageous fear

I have always been made fun of by my friends and family for my bizarre fears and sometimes I wonder myself why I am so afraid of this one, pretty stupid thing.....

CLOWNS

I can recall pretty vividly the day that this started. My grandpa was part of the Shriners when I was younger and every year they would have a Christmas party. Those dang Shriner clowns would always be there, out in the hallway greeting kids. The last year that I went one of them came up to me and asked me to blow into his fist (yeah is it just me or is that creepy) and after I did what he asked he opened his hand to show me this dinosaur toy and said my bad breath made it come to life.

Ever since that day I've hated clowns. I know it seems dumb but they totally freak me out - their painted faces, creepy smiles and laughs, big shoes and weird magic tricks. I am always afraid that under that weird make up is some weirdo old man who just likes to be around kids (I know I am probably going WAY out on a limb with that one). Now my fear has even grown a little to a hatred/fear of mimes and the Burger King Man/The King....

I want to punch him in his large plastic head and watch him fall down and maybe get run over by a garbage truck. Yes, that is how much I dislike him. They had this one commercial for Burger King breakfast where he stuck is head into someones window while they were sleeping and handed them a breakfast sandwich. If that happened to me I'd be sure to run for the shotgun in the closet.....

So I know it probably sounds totally nuts that I am afraid of clowns but I know I can't be the only one......

That's sad you had such a bad experience early on with clowns. I always liked clowns--my first experience with them was at the circus where they didn't get up close and personal. I even acted like a clown and dressed up funny for our AWANA club sometimes. The kids and staff all seemed to like it when I did this.

Visiting from Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop. I used this same prompt.

*SHUDDER* Oh. Dear. That picture did me in. I cannot stand clowns. I run from them in fear. I'm so there with you.

Agreed. Clowns are creepy, kind of sad, and anything but funny.

Get out of here. I can't imagine a big party with lots of clowns creeping a kid out... : ) Kidding. My son hates clowns too!

I can understand clowns. They are weird. Just plain strange! And I'll help you punch the The Burger King guy...he's absolutely ridiculous.

I'm not afraid of clowns, I just never GOT them. And now I find them extremely annoying. So I'll help with the face-punching. :-)

Oh, and the creepy thing makes sense to me...I wouldn't want them at my kid's birthday party!

My son has a fear of clowns, also. I didn't realize how bad it was until I took him to the circus - we had to leave, he couldn't take it anymore.

Now when I look at them, I can see how creepy they can appear - and I wonder who/what is behind all that makeup.

I used to like clowns, then someone told me about IT. Now I think they are all evil! Good post!

I'm with you on the dislike of clowns. I used to have a clown as a little girl, the kind that you could move the arms/legs from the strings. Then I saw a movie about clowns and a clown killer... couldn't stand to have that clown doll in my room thereafter. The only time I liked a clown was when my Dad dressed up for one for Halloween for my Sweet 16 birthday party. My Dad is the sweetest man you could ever meet, so not even the clown fear could make me afraid of Dad :)
